About Amanda J. Marshall

Amanda J. Marshall is a compassionate advocate dedicated to supporting individuals and families through some of life’s most complex and personal legal challenges. As a Partner at Athena Advocacy, Amanda focuses on providing thoughtful, client-centered representation grounded in dignity, respect, and accessibility. With a practice centered on family law, mental health law, and advocacy for vulnerable individuals, Amanda J. Marshall is committed to helping clients feel heard, supported, and empowered throughout the legal process.

After beginning a solo practice in 2019, Amanda became a founding partner of Athena Advocacy in 2025, continuing a mission of providing affirming and inclusive legal services throughout Oregon. Prior to private practice, Amanda served as a Judicial Clerk for Clackamas County Judge Susie Norby, gaining valuable insight into the court system and the complexities of legal decision-making affecting individuals and families.

Throughout her career, Amanda has been recognized for both advocacy and public service. In 2020, she received the Oregon New Lawyers Division Award for Public Service in recognition of her commitment to serving the community. She has also been invited to speak at a variety of conferences and professional events, including:

  • NARPA
  • Oregon Judges Association events
  • Law and Mental Health Conference

These speaking engagements reflect Amanda’s passion for mental health advocacy and commitment to improving understanding of the legal issues surrounding mental health care and civil commitment proceedings.

Amanda earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Puget Sound in 2006 before attending Pace University School of Law, where she graduated in 2009. She is licensed to practice law in:

  • Oregon
  • Washington
  • Massachusetts

In addition to legal practice, Amanda J. Marshall remains actively involved in several professional and community organizations, including:

  • Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association
  • OGALLA – Oregon’s LGBTQ+ Bar Association
  • Oregon Attorneys with Disabilities Association
  • Board Member, Mental Health Association of Portland

Her decision to pursue a career in law began with a desire to work with children and families facing difficult circumstances. Over time, that passion evolved into a strong commitment to helping individuals experiencing mental health crises and ensuring vulnerable individuals have access to compassionate legal advocacy during critical moments.

Outside of the office, Amanda enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and adventuring with her dog, Bella. She also enjoys dog training, knitting, and playing the oboe in a local community band.
